Willietta Hughes is a Sierra Leonean lawyer who is serving her fellowship with AdvocAid. Willietta has been passionately engaged in advocating for the elimination of all forms of discrimination against women and children while promoting gender equality. Willietta has worked at Sorie and Bangura, one of the leading firms in Sierra Leone, where she was actively involved in dispute resolution and legal research, while providing pro-bono legal services to women and children. She is an active member of Legal Access through Women Yearning for Equal Rights and Social Justice (LAWYERS). She interned with the Sierra Leone judiciary as a Judge’s intern involved in legal research and witnessed diverse court processes. Willietta has also worked with UNFPA as an Enumerator generating data on maternal and reproductive health. She graduated from Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone in 2019, is an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) and a member of the Sierra Leone Bar Association.
