She holds an Upper Second-Class Bachelor of Laws (Honours) degree from the University of Malawi and has a strong passion for criminal justice and human rights; more specifically women and children’s rights.

Her dedication to research and advocacy has led her to present at several national and legal symposia. She presented for instance, at the Malawi Law Society & University of Malawi Research Symposium, her paper titled “Promises Unfulfilled: Children’s Right to Development under the Constitution of Malawi”. She also presented her abstract at the Criminal Justice System Reform Conference organized by the Irish Rule of Law, her paper titled “NGOs and Their Role in Helping Marginalized Individuals in Society”. Altogether, through her research undertakings and her internships at CHREAA and The State Advocate Chambers, Vitumbiko has developed great expertise in human rights and criminal justice, with a focus on the rights of female prisoners, children and other marginalized individuals in society.

Under the Waging Justice for Women Fellowship, she hopes to contribute further in such areas, whilst also strengthening her advocacy and feminist lawyering skills.
