Waging Justice for Women Fellow

Mgusuhi Maswi is a Tanzanian lawyer who is serving her fellowship with the Pan African Lawyers Union (PALU). Mgusuhi is an ambitious human rights activist, advocate, and an enthusiast for social justice. She is well-groomed in civil society, having coordinated a number of projects that advocate for the rights of women and girls, children, and people living with disability. She holds a Post-Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from The Law School of Tanzania (Hons) and a Bachelor of Laws from Mzumbe University. She has been a member of the Tanganyika Law Society since 2019. Mgusuhi has expertise on civic engagement, community organizing, legal aid, and project management, with a special focus on gender-based violence, youth engagement, the rule of law, and good governance. She has worked and volunteered with entities that focus on public advocacy, strategic litigation, and legal aid, including the Tanzania Women’s Lawyers Association (TAWLA). In her recent position, Mgusuhi worked as a program manager at Msichana Initiative Organization, a local NGO established to advocate for girls’ rights in Tanzania. She is also a Malala Fund Education Champion working to promote girls’ right to a free, safe, and quality education in her country. Mgusuhi is inspired to work towards bringing about the positive transformation of communities and improving the lives of the most vulnerable groups in society.
