Waging Justice for Women Fellow
Fatou Mbenga is serving her fellowship with the Female Lawyers Association-Gambia (FLAG). Her expertise lies in the litigation of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV). Working as a State Counsel at the Attorney General’s Chambers and Ministry of Justice, she managed criminal prosecutions on behalf of the State for SGBV survivors and served the Ministry’s SGBV Unit, ensuring a survivor-centred approach to case management.
Fatou holds a Master’s degree in Intellectual Property from Africa University, Zimbabwe. She is the Legal and Committee Affairs Lead at She Awards Gambia, a women’s awards platform celebrating women and inspiring girls. Fatou is also a DLA Piper Fellow (2019-2021).
She is eager to utilize the fellowship to strengthen her strategic advocacy skills for the advancement of the rights of women and children. She aims to contribute to meaningful legal reforms that enhance the protection of vulnerable communities.
