Waging Justice for Women Fellow

Chuma Bubu is a South African lawyer who is serving her fellowship with the Initiative for Strategic Litigation in Africa (ISLA). She is a human rights lawyer whose passion lies at the intersection of international human rights, racial justice, and gender justice. Chuma holds a Master of Laws (specializing in Critical Race Studies and International Human Rights) from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) where she was also a recipient of the UCLA Health and Human Rights Fellowship. Chuma also holds a Bachelor of Social Sciences in International Relations and Economic History and a Bachelor of Laws – both from the University of Cape Town (UCT). Before joining the fellowship, Chuma worked as a Racial Justice and Human Rights Research Assistant at the Promise Institute for Human Rights at UCLA. Prior to this, Chuma held a position as an associate in the Public Law and Regulatory department at ENSafrica in Johannesburg. Chuma has also dedicated a significant amount of her time throughout university and her career, to involvement in community service and volunteering.
