Waging Justice for Women Fellow
Arlette Kitumaini is a Congolese lawyer who is serving her fellowship with the Institute for Human Rights and Development in Africa (IHRDA). She obtained her law degree (equivalent of a Master of Law Studies) of the Université Libre des Pays des Grands Lacs (ULPGL) from the Democratic Republic of the Congo in 2019. In the same year, she launched her humanitarian affairs career with Community Action for Development (CAD-RDC/NGO) as the Protection Associate and then Program Associate. Arlette joined the bar in 2021. She practiced law with Justin Muhindo Mushekuru et Associés Firm, where she was admitted as a partner and expert in Prevention/Protection against Sexual Abuse and Exploitation (PSEA) and Gender-Based Violence (GBV), certified by the World Health Organization (WHO). In 2022, launched a campaign on the prevention and response to sexual abuse and exploitation of girls in conflict zones, particularly in the IDP camps of the North Kivu Province. Arlette was trained and certified by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in collaboration with OSACO Human Risk Factors as an investigator of cases of abuse and sexual exploitation committed by humanitarian workers. Today she is one of the few Sexual Abuse, Exploitation and Harassment (EAS/HS) investigators in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
